BRIGHT SMILES AHEAD Key Dental Health Projects
Super Smiles: A Dental Health Adventure Developed and designed for the Indiana Department of Health’s Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity and Division of Oral Health, this K-2 project includes a 5-lesson curriculum with corresponding educational videos and caregiver handouts in English and Spanish. Materials focus on brushing and flossing basics, healthy dental behaviors as a family, how and why to limit sugar, and who you meet and what to expect at the dental office.
Healthy People
We created oral health handouts and training for the American Academy of Pediatrics, focusing on the importance of fluoride, finding a dentist, mental health and how it relates to oral health and substance use.
Visually Impaired Preschool (VIPS)
Maverick Goes to the Dentist An illustrated children’s book following the journey of a 10-year-old non-verbal boy who has a condition called leukodystrophy. Piper, a close friend and neighbor, narrates the story of Maverick’s visit to the dentist. This project was funded by the Delta Dental Foundation.
For the first time, McMillen Health collaborated with the Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) of Indianapolis to develop resources for caregivers of children with blindness or low vision. The project included videos and handouts on oral health care in both English and Spanish. These resources provide guidance on oral hygiene, healthy dental habits, what to expect during a dentist visit, and how to advocate effectively for your child.
