McMillen Health Annual Report 2023.2024

EXPANDING OUR REACH New Progams and Initiatives

New Nutrition Programs Pre-K-12 Funded by the Allen County Health First grant, we’ve updated and introduced new nutrition programs aimed at combating the concerning increase in obesity and chronic disease among our community. Newly developed programs will focus on essential topics such as healthy nutrition habits, understanding nutrition labels, food processing, lifelong wellness, and maintaining a balanced diet:

McMillen Health remains dedicated to meeting the evolving needs of our community. Each year, we host two Program Committee meetings where school administrators, counselors, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders join us virtually to share what health education needs they are seeing in their communities. These ideas, along with additional requests from teachers throughout the year, help us continually develop and update our programs. The following programs were developed as a result of these meetings.

Growing Healthy Habits (Preschool) BFF: Body Friendly Foods (Grades 2-3) Food, Farming, and Fun (Grades 4-5) My Body Blueprint (Grades 6-8)

Nutrition 101: Health & Wellness (Grades 9-12) Nutrition 201: Health & Wellness (Grades 9-12) Adult Slam Dunk the Funk Students with Disabilities: Nutrition 101

New Vaping Programs

Cloud of Concern Programs (3.0, 4.0, 5.0)

Responding to community concerns about early vaping, these new programs for 3rd to 5th graders educate students on the dangers and life-alerting consequences of vaping, as well as provide healthy stress management alternatives. By providing this knowledge, the program aims to help children make informed decisions and develop healthier habits.

Mom & Me Days We continue to enhance our Healthy Tomorrow app through our Mom & Me Days, which initially began in Allen County. Thanks to additional support, we’ve been able to expand these events into DeKalb County as well. This continuation and expansion was made possible through generous funding from Allen County Health First and DeKalb Health First grants. We will also be expanding into Noble County for the new year! We are thankful for the chance to continue and expand Mom & Me Days and look forward to further building on this initiative in the future.
